Course overview
Tafseer is the explanation of the Quran. In this course, students study the meanings and lessons of the Quran, surah by surah, so their recitation is joined by understanding.
Lessons refer to established, widely respected works of tafseer rather than personal opinion. Students learn what a passage means, the background in which it was revealed where this is known, and the lessons it holds for everyday life. The material is presented in clear, simple language and adapted to the student's level.
Tafseer classes focus on understanding the Quran. For questions that need a scholarly ruling on a personal matter, students are encouraged to consult a qualified scholar.
What a typical class looks like
Weekday classes last 30 minutes, or 1 hour on a Saturday-and-Sunday-only schedule. A typical lesson includes:
- A short recitation of the passage being studied
- An explanation of its meaning, key words and background
- Discussion of the lessons it contains, with time for the student's questions
- A brief recap, and something to reflect on before the next class
Being one-to-one on Zoom or Microsoft Teams, classes can follow the student's interests and questions while still working through the text in order.
How progress is tracked
The teacher keeps a record of the surahs and passages covered and the themes discussed. Students are encouraged to keep their own notes. For teenagers, parents can receive updates on WhatsApp about what has been studied. Progress is about growing understanding, not exams.
Is this course right for you?
Tafseer is a good fit if:
- The student is a teen or adult who wants to understand the Quran, not only recite it
- They can follow explanations comfortably in the language of instruction
- They are looking for steady, reflective study rather than a quick overview
Students can study Tafseer alongside Nazra, Tajweed or Hifz. Fees depend on the plan agreed for each student, so please ask on WhatsApp.
