One of the best things about online Quran classes is that your child can learn one-to-one with a teacher in another country. The trickiest part is usually not the lesson itself but the clock. With a little planning, though, learning with a teacher in Pakistan fits easily into family life.
Know the time difference, and that it changes
Pakistan Standard Time is five hours ahead of UTC, and Pakistan does not currently change its clocks for daylight saving. Many other countries do, so the gap with Pakistan can change during the year.
| Where you live | Standard time | Daylight saving time |
|---|---|---|
| London | 5 hours behind Pakistan | 4 hours behind |
| Paris, Berlin | 4 hours behind | 3 hours behind |
| New York, Toronto | 10 hours behind | 9 hours behind |
| Los Angeles, Vancouver | 13 hours behind | 12 hours behind |
| Dubai | 1 hour behind | No clock change |
| Riyadh, Doha | 2 hours behind | No clock change |
| Sydney, Melbourne | 5 hours ahead | 6 hours ahead |
These are general guides. The booking form always shows your exact times.
Start with your family's routine
Before looking at slots, map out a normal week. When does school finish? When is homework, dinner and bedtime? When are children most alert? A class squeezed in when a child is tired or hungry rarely goes well.
A fixed time on every class day usually works best, because children settle into the routine.
Picking a slot that works on both sides
Your class time has to suit both you and the teacher, so it helps to know how the clocks line up:
- UK and Europe: after-school afternoons fall in the Pakistan evening. For example, 4:30 PM in London in winter is 9:30 PM in Pakistan.
- US and Canada: your evening is the middle of the night in Pakistan. Early mornings often work better. For example, 8:00 AM in New York in summer is 5:00 PM in Pakistan.
- Gulf countries: you are only one or two hours behind Pakistan, so after-school slots are usually easy to arrange.
- Australia: your afternoon is late morning or midday in Pakistan, so after-school slots can work well.
The booking form lists the times currently available, converted into your own time zone.
Consider a weekend-only plan
If weekdays are packed, or the time difference makes weekday slots awkward, a weekend plan can help. Our usual schedule is five days a week with 30-minute classes. If you choose Saturday and Sunday only, each class is one hour instead.
Weekend plans often suit busy teenagers and working adults. Younger children usually do best with short daily classes, if a suitable weekday time is available.
Watch out for clock changes
The UK and the EU change their clocks on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. The US and Canada change on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. Australian states that observe daylight saving change on the first Sunday of October and the first Sunday of April.
When your clocks change, the time difference with Pakistan changes by one hour.
Our system stores your schedule in your own time zone and works out the matching Pakistan time for each date. If a clock change moves your class to a time that no longer suits you or the teacher, we will agree a new slot together.
How we show your class times
- In the booking form, each available slot is shown in your local time and in Pakistan time, with a note when the date is different in Pakistan.
- Your time zone is filled in from your device. Please check it, especially in countries with several time zones, such as the US, Canada and Australia.
- When we confirm your schedule, the approval email and our messages include both times with clear labels.
Small habits that help
- Add classes to your calendar with the correct time zone, and set a reminder ten minutes before.
- Test Zoom or Microsoft Teams before the first class.
- Save our WhatsApp number so you can message us quickly if you are running late.
- Tell us early about holidays, travel or changes to your routine, such as during Ramadan.
